Welcome to the Salish Pride Website

Brant Johnny was born and raised in Cowichan (Duncan, British Columbia), Canada.  He is happily married to his wife Sheila and they have one son Brandon Brant Jr.   In 1985 he was taught how to carve by Ron Austin of K'San-Gitsan Nation. Other prominant artists such as Francis Horne, Doug Lafortune, Gary Rice, and Rocky LaRock of the Coast Salish Nation have also influenced Brant.
Brant specializes in totem poles, plaques, portait masks, cedar bowls, cedar boxes, and wall panels using red and yellow cedar wood.  Brant is well known for his portrait masks and his personal interpretation of masterpieces.  In 1995 he introduced the "Crying Princess Mask", unique to his artwork.   His most recent creation is the Chief's Mask mounted on a stand to be used for dislpay on Executive Desks.
In 1993 he carved a 12 foot totem pole for Lake Cowichan's Sister City in Japan, and also had one of his portrait masks used for the TV Commercial Advertising for the Commonwealth games held in Victoria British Columbia. Brant's work is well represented in both public and private collections around the world.   His most recent work includes  2 totem poles carved for the Cowichan Tribes Education Department for recognition of the Honour Roll Students.
